Crop swap & recycling collection

Back by popular demand… show us your kai harvest and trade with locals!
Bring along your homegrown kai, seeds, compost or worm wee, your baked goodies, your homebrew, or home fermentation to swap or share.

Recycling Collection
Here's an updated list of what is accepted for recycling. We've tried to answer questions received at the last recycling drop-off (yes to hearing aid batteries!) and address issues with some of the items we received (a lot of plastic that wasn't accepted).

If you're unsure of anything, please ask and a more detailed list (showing where items are sent) is available.

All items need to be squeaky clean please 🙂

  • Plastic bottle/container tops (numbers 2 and 5 only). Please separate these into 2 and 5, and check for the number (if there's no number, this won't be accepted for recycling). Waxy or thermal seals need to be removed.

  • Metal lids and items including bottle/jar tops, tin can lids, small metal items and tin foil. Plastic seals don't need to be removed for these!

  • Batteries - standard household (AA,AAA, 9V, C, D, N), hearing aid and button batteries. Please wrap button batteries and lithium batteries (rechargeable) in tape. Damaged or leaking batteries cannot be accepted for recycling.

  • Bread bags - clean and dry for Kindy to reuse. Other soft plastics can be taken direct to collection points at local supermarkets.

  • Tetra Pak containers - Cut along the top and side of the carton, completely open the carton up and rinse clean. Note - leave the lid on

  • Natural textiles

Yes please: 100% cotton, merino, wool, linen, hemp, silk. This includes natural fibre blends (no synthetic blends please). Yes, you can include sheets, tea towels, and towels.
No thanks: Plastic synthetics (polyester, nylon, spandex, viscose, acrylic). Duvets, mattresses, carpets, socks, undergarments, shoes.

This is a follow on from the Pukerua Bay Climate Action Spring Series event.
